openssl 3.4 is supported until 22nd October 2026 and has the longest support date of any openssl release; the LTS expires earlier, so 3.4 may become the next LTS, I don't know.
I updated the installed openssl-3 package on a bloody system and checked that everything appeared to work properly, then did a full omnios build with this newer version in place that was successful. I also updated to that newly rebuilt version and observed no problems. This is in line with my expectations as 3.4 is supposed to be largely compatible with 3.3.
