I built FilmLogger in 2016, and refactored it into FilmLogger v2 in 2021, and we took Python and Tkinter as far as they could go.
It turns out those don't go very far.
Built with Steve Ballmer's next-generation .NET technology, combined with the bold new frontier of the Information Superhighway, FilmLogger has a new lease on life. Welcome to the third generation of FilmLogger software.
And now, with the added power of the new NT Kernel, this is no longer FilmLogger 3.11 For Workgroups. This, is:
FilmLogger is an app for Windows and Linux that lets you track what films you watched, when you watched them, and whether you watched at home or at the theater!
When you open FilmLogger, you can start adding films immediately, or open a previously saved archive to add more.
Verify your film using it's IMDb ID code! Films are verified using data services provided by TheMovieDB.org.
Once your film has been verified, mark the date and location, and then click Add to Archive. A running count of all films in your archive shows in the corner.
Remember to save before closing! FilmLogger will prompt you to save if you try to close the app without saving your newly recorded films. We're friendly like that!
FilmLogger stores data in an open JSON format, the FilmLogger v3 standard! This standard is user-readable, and follows the example below! If you have trouble opening your saved archive, make sure it looks like this:

]Make sure that each film has a unique Order number, and that go from 1..X in sequence with no gaps. This only matters if you're making the JSON file manually; if you use FilmLogger, or any other software compatible with the FilmLogger v3 Standard, it will handle the ordering for you.
FilmLogger NT 3.51 is validated with prepackaged binaries for the following Operating Systems and architectures:
- Windows 10 Build 1607+ / Windows 11 Build 22000+
- i686 (Installer .exe)
- x86_64 (Installer .exe)
- Ubuntu 20.04+
- x86_64 (.deb Package)
- Fedora 37+ / AlmaLinux 8+
- x86_64 (.rpm Package)
If your Linux distribution uses musl or bionic rather than glibc, you will have to compile your own libSkiaSharp.so as Avalonia's included build will only work on glibc-based Linux distrubitions.
As Windows 10 was the final release of Windows on i686, FilmLogger NT 3.51 will no longer package or validate i686 binaries once Windows 10 reaches End-of-Life for mainstream support on October 14, 2025.
AArch64 binaries are not provided for Windows or Linux, and no binaries are provided for macOS, as I do not have the hardware to validate the functionality of those builds.
