Would someone mind pointing to a good walkthrough on how to install this? Download ZIP and then what?

You don't install. Because it's useless now. You can do the steps in here. I believe it still works.

I don't know about others but my Steam updates very frequently. I can't do this every time. Even with a script, I need to close the Steam and open it again. Even if I do that with the script, I need to wait. That's why I don't use it anymore. I just click don't show me this update thing.
