I'm evaluating open-source NVR options and Moonfire looks very nice. It seems it has almost everything I need but there is something I don't know how to configure or maybe it's just not supported.
Let's assume I configure storage limit to 10GB. If I understand correctly, once I start Moonfire, assuming the RTSP stream from the camera is perfectly stable, no network reconnects, etc. Moonfire operates on a single recording that at some point of time will take around 10GB and the older segments will start being replaced by the newest ones.
My question is: what would it take to add a feature of splitting the recording automatically after reaching recording size limit (as opposed to storage size limit) or a duration limit? Working on a few but smaller recordings would be very handy, especially in case of applying video analytics on the recording when triggered by signals. For example, if motion is detected, most likely I will be interested in only a few minutes of the video close to the event. Another use case could be locking the recording to prevent deleting / overwriting.
I'd really prefer to avoid periodic restart of Moonfire as a workaround 😄
