First, I would not recommend to start using IRAF unless there is a real need to do so. IRAF is really old and outdated software, and it will probably be a dead end when you start using it. Depending on the problems you want to solve, I would rather recommend to check out astropy and its affiliated packages. Putting energy in getting them run for you needs probably helps more in the longer term. You didn't say which IRAF version you used and where you got it from. From the error message, I would guess that you used either an NOAO distributed tarball, or a version distributed with Astroconda. Both versions don't work with ARM Macs; you need to follow the instructions from https://iraf-community.github.io/install.html to get a version running on the M1 CPU. The error messages when building ximtool as long as you use SAOImageDS9; the second line in your log however suggests that you already have compiled xgterm. If you did this on your computer, then you should be able to start it without problems. You should however be sure that the iraf environment variable is properly set. |
