Looking at the BigQuery scripts and the validator I'm wondering if we should follow the pattern of stac-utils and make a dedicated github organization where we could gather various tools. Plus ideas like geoparquet.io.
It'd be a collection of tools that would normally just live on their own, where people could put projects to raise the visibility in the geoparquet community. It can help keep the core repo 'cleaner', and enable independent releases, as each repo can just show what version they support, instead of having a burden of updating all the tools inside the repo in time for each new release of the spec. And once we get to 1.0.0 we likely won't want to be cutting new releases just to put out improvements to scripts/tools - but I could see adding new functionality, or minor updates. And there'd be no pressure to put tools in, just an optional home for anyone who wants to raise the visibility/findability a bit.
I think the stac-utils pattern has worked pretty well. We could call it something other than geoparquet-utils like geoparquet-tools or something. And no big rush on this, happy for tools to continue to develop in the geoparquet repo, but I think something to consider before 1.0.0.
