I was hoping that Karen would chime in here as I am not the expert.
Have you looked at the intermine? There are fly-mines, mouse mines etc. The
services are set up by the MODs and are supposed to be uniform.
When we did this it took about many people a couple of years of effort, we
were doing more than just this and the data was not as well aligned as it
should be today.

The idea would be to get something working similarly to .ics files for
calendar events: something that people selling material will be able to
create, and that can be read by different software dealing with lab
inventory.
Anyone has an idea?

intermine seems not to include data on alleles or insertions, so not usable in this case (if I am right with this) |
this is quite related to #16, unfortunately the intermine API is apparently not useful in our case. |
It also does not include a lot of strain info from at least vertebrate
sources. We had to put together a lot of that data from individual stock
centers. Just got a new one for frog this week which was never registered
with the MOD before now. I am personally really pleased that we are able to
push stock centers toward the nomenclature authorities, of course many work
closely with them already.
