@alicewilliams36 and I are looking at areas across all our services where we can make some small changes with these basic aims:

  • ensure it's obvious the service comes from mySociety, in every part of the user journey including confirmation emails etc
  • refine the wording of donation prompts
  • encourage sign-ups to our newsletter

I appreciate that these won't be welcome on cobrands, so the first question is whether it's possible to easily differentiate, and only consider these for fixmystreet.com? Are there any other problems around this?

Here's what we're thinking:

Emails

Including alerts, confirmation, survey, survey reminder and any other standard mails.

At the moment these have the FMS logo on the top: could the same 'a service from mySociety' graphic that's on the homepage be added here?

Success screens

ie, 'your report has been submitted' and the screen that shows after a 'yes' response is submitted to the 'was your problem fixed' questionnaire:

  • Add a donation request (or refine the one that's already on there if that's the case)
    Alice's suggested wording:

Submitted screen:

This service is not publically funded: donate today to help make communities cleaner and safer for all.

Yes, fixed response:

"That's great - well done for taking the time to raise this. Did you know this service is run by a charity? We rely on the generosity of supporters, and any size contribution can help towards our mission of creating a fairer, safer society. Find out more here:" DONATE

Can we also add a 'subscribe' option to these?

Footer of website

  • Change current donation prompt (Your donations keep this site and others like it running) to:

This site is not publically funded: donate today to help to make communities cleaner and safer for all.

Help page

  • At the end of Then who are you? And why are you doing this?, add:

This site is not publicly funded: your donations help to make communities cleaner and safer for all.

  • After "How can I contact you?", please add a new section:

Happy to have chatted through (as I'm sure would anyone) what it currently has/how it works to make making these suggestions easier. Yes, everything can be applied only to .com, that is already the case with all the existing donation stuff displayed.

As a superuser, you can see existing confirmation pages at https://www.fixmystreet.com/_dev e.g.

The bar of three things shown there is the same template shown on all confirmation/questionnaire completed pages, and couple of other places too. So changing that single thing to whatever changes you want would be the preferable way to go.

Emails can be seen at https://www.fixmystreet.com/_dev/email/

Given the history I've had, I would suggest "publicly", not "publically", even though the latter is still valid!
