should be displable on the main screen for easy interaction and control of Orbot

Of course, this will not work as smoothly as expected...

Widgets are only seldomly updated by itself. There's a "budget".
Running apps can trigger an update.
Network Extensions cannot. (At least not, when the app isn't running anymore.)
