In much the same way as Jinja is "injected" into the grammar, allowing an installed Jinja grammar (if present) to highlight Jinja content, we could do the same for the values of script = ... settings in suiterc files.

Only downside is it might become somewhat visually chaotic - maybe some users won't like it. Not sure how we could make it optional.

Was this proposal given consideration since 2020? Is there any specific reason why it wasn't implemented?

The only reason is development priorities/lack of time.
