Obvious things

— We haven't explained git, and it's a barrier to entry
— It's really, really hard to run a regular meetup in a pub.

What are the obvious things I'm missing

I'd like to suggest that getting people into a pub is possibly the least of anyone's worries.. :) as I put on twitter though, I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who don't feel 'up'to the task even if we fancy the challenge. (For various reasons)

@tef asks, "What are the obvious things I'm missing" -- I would say, with great chagrin: Facebook.

I am setting up a Computer group in a smallish city where almost everything is organised on Facebook... I basically had to join Facebook when I moved here if I wanted to know what was going on. I've also noticed that a lot of the people who are not "from a background which is well-represented in most geeky meetups" are more likely to use Facebook than other social media platforms. For instance, some of the Ballarat Bloggers group on Facebook are quite computer-y and I'm going to reach out to them.
