apparently when launching through gamescope, it applies a conversion to connected controllers to the xbox layout, which did not happen prior to gamescope, which can mess with games expecting a specific controller.
notably a game I wanted to use with it has an option to use PS glyphs but basically pins them to the directinput ids of what they are on a DS4/DS5 so cross would be on button 2 (starting from 1)
when the controller gets converted to xbox layout tho, button 2 would no longer be cross but circle as 2 is B on an xbox controller.
a workaround can be to switch the game to xbox mode but that isnt that nice imo especially when the game has support for the controller.
a flag to just leave the controller alone would be neat.
