Lighting up LED in LED-Button on button pressed

Hi, I am most certainly overlooking something and there probably is a way to do this already, but I wasn't able to find something after quite some searching so here's the question:
It'd be nice, especially for smaller kids, to see the LED of a button light up once it is pressed.
My first guess was that the LED on the shutdown button could be used on other buttons as well (components/gpio_control/GPIODevices/shutdown_button.py) but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Also the flashing for example would be perfect on e.g. the play button to indicate pause status.
Maybe somebody could kindly point me to the right direction on how to set this up?
