I stumbled across Cookiecutter as a possible generic implementation of templated projects. Would be worth investigating.

We use this when starting all XENON Python projects. It's very useful. What extra information do you need?

I think just to check that it would do what's currently done in the 'hand rolled' HSF project template. I'd be surprised if it didn't and clearly it would offer a lot of advantages to use a standard tool.
